About Missi Brenneman
I am a passionate painter, illustrator, and art teacher based in Boyertown, PA. I studied art in Philadelphia and Paris, ultimately earning a BA in Communication Arts from Pennsylvania College of Art & Design in Lancaster. Although my degree is in graphic design and illustration, all my work is heavily influenced by my fine art background and has a "painter's touch."
In fact, I have sometimes been told that my work is too painterly for graphic design houses and too illustrative for fine art galleries, a struggle I am proud to share with such famous illustrators as Marshall Arisman—whom I had the privilege of meeting while in college—and Andrew Wyeth.
Painter & Illustrator
My work has been shown in galleries and is part of private collections throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. I work in many different mediums, including oils, oil and chalk pastels, graphite, pen and ink, watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, gouache, and many more. Over the course of my career as a freelance artist, I have illustrated three children's books, produced architectural illustrations, painted commissioned portraits and fine art landscapes, and designed and painted sets for Penn State's theater department.
I am passionate about art education and have worked as a teacher and administrator in art programs throughout the region. I led the Artists in Education program in Schuylkill County's public schools for 10 years, and I currently offer private art classes and portfolio prep classes for students applying for art school.
I have been an artist for many years, but I never stop learning and evolving. Travel is one of the best ways to open your mind and stimulate creativity. I believe strongly that creativity generates more creativity and art leads to more art. Exploring new countries and cultures is an excellent way to gain exposure to different people, artists, and landscapes.
